The Northern War
battle of Whitgar
After years of harsh Gargoth rule over the North, King Sten Berric took his chance. Raising a host of 8000 Raiders, each led by a former Jarl or Companion, Sten marched East from Alversai's camp city, alongside 2000 Alversai nomads whom did not follow Alec south, Sten regrouped with a host of coalition forces, from Lyons, Maernum and Letum, who's exact numbers are unknown. As King Sten marched into the North, he liberated many keeps around the capital, but the Gargoths refused to kneel. Burning crops as they retreated their forces to the capital, the Gargoths rallied their forces, around 10,000 men, at the "Bloody Gate", a huge gate leading to the keep, where King Gargoth sat. Fighting through the streets, grinding through shops and houses, the coalition forces finally arrive at the keep, having battered their way through the bloody gate. Heavy injuries were evident for both sides, but neither regrouped. On the 4th night of the siege, a letter made it's way into Sten's hands. "King Gargoth is dead, his throne usurped by his eldest son. He has gathered his strongest warriors around him in his throneroom, and awaits your arrival." The next morning, the coalition forces watched as Sten, Rightful King of Whitgar and the Last Bear, climbed those steps up to the keep, and walked through those oak doors, alone. Four hours later, the bloody body of a pale, platinum haired man rolled down the steps, his black crown smashing against the stones. Above him stood Sten, bloody and battered, covered in blood, holding his axe high above his head. The North was liberated.
The Crown Wars
Battle of Lionrock
Roswyn's truce with the other Kingdoms became uneasy, as High King Tybalt took an aggressive stance when Rochemort broke off from Letum, alongside Maernum and Redford, and formed the Empire of Lyons. Shortly after the Empire is formed, Roswyn and Letum begin to negotiate an alliance as a safeguard against the rising power. 2 Months later, Roswyn and Letum, hoping to stop the newly formed Empire from expanding, declared war. Marching North into Redford's port city of Lionrock, under their commander High King Tybalt, the Roswyn hosts were confronted by Aerys de Chevalier, Emperor Arys' bastard son, and commander of a large coalition force, made up of Redford, Rochemort, Maernum and Alversai troops. The two hosts formed up outside the walls of Lionrock, Aerys planning to make full use of his heavy cavalry from House Rochemort. Tybaly on the other hand, began fortifying his camp, hoping the block the Empire's cavalry from annihilating his infantry. First, the two armies sent out detachments of light infantry to skirmish. Men-at-arms from House Maernum and Roswyn clashed outside of the camps, the tide never truly being decided until the 6th night. On the 6th night, as Maernum troops were pursued by a bloodthirsty squad of Roswyn men-at-arms, High King Tybalt took his chance. Unleashing an entire host of Heavy infantry and archers, Tybalt hoped to catch the Maernum forces unaware and cut them off from their main host. As the Maernum forces began to stream back towards the camp, Aerys made his move. The tents near the front of the camp split apart, and revealed their inhabitants. Whole battalions of Rochemort heavy prepared themselves, bracing their lances and stirring their steeds forward. The Roswyn heavy infantry, out in the open, was caught between a now renewed force of Maernum Men-at-arms (whom had covered their flanks) and a thunderous swarm of heavy knights. In a matter of minutes, the host of heavy infantry was smashed, the Knights continueing on into the Roswyn camp and slaughtering it's inhabitants, follow up by Redford Dismounted Knights and Maernum Men-at-arms. Just as they arrived at High King Tybalts tent, the camp began to catch fire. Trapped within the camp, a large amount of coalition troops burnt to death, as High King Tybalt fled the battle, returning to Varensell.
Battle of Varensell/Battle of Broken Swords
As the Empire and it's northern allies returned to their keeps, to renew their forces, High King Tybalt began to panic. Calling upon his Letti allies, he began to fortify Varensell and the surrounding towns of Westgate, Newtown and Highkeep. Calling all his forces from the southern Ironstone-Roswyn border, and trusting in his truce with the King of Wolves, Tybalt raised a force of over 10,000 men-at-arms, 2000 Knights and 1400 sellswords. King Adrien on the other hand raised a force of 20,000 men-at-arms, 5000 Knights and 1200 archers. The two kings also raised a large amount of catapults, to return fire to the siege equipment used by the Empire. Over the next two years, the two kings would continue fortifying the capital, and fighting off incursions from the Empire into Northern Roswyn and Letum. However, at the end of the 2nd year, Lyons raised it's banners. Prince Gerion Redford, son of Prince Corlys Redford, raised an army of 15,000 men-at-arms, 1000 Knights and 500 archers. Emperor Arys and his son raised two hosts, each with 10,000 men-at-arms, 5000 Knights and 10,000 Northerners, under King Sten Berric. The four armies met outside of Varensell, Emperor Arys demanding that Adrien swear fealty and kneel, and Tybalt give up his throne in return for a lordship. The offer was refused, and negotiations came to an end. For three years the siege went on, both sides taking heavy losses, around 25,000 for Lyons and 15,000 for Roswyn. On the 4th year, Arys' broke through. The walls of Varensell crumbled, and Arys' forces flooded the keep, executing the Last King of Letum and his Chevaliers for refusing Arys' offer of peace, and imprisoning Tybaly. Arys' son, Aerys, died in the battle, greatly devastating the Emperor, whom returned home to his manor and lived his days in peace for the next two years. Varensell was handed to the Carrons, a vassal house of Lyons, the town of Westgate too.
A record on Adrien's death suggest he was killed at the Valley of Soot, renamed the Valley of Broken Swords after the battle. His last 500 Knights met a host of 2000 Rochemort Knights. Arys and Adrien stepped out alone from their forces, the Emperor wearing a black set of plate, the chestplate covered in blood red rubies, and draped across his shoulders was a blue and red cloak, displaying the proud symbols of the rearing stag and lion In his hand was his sword "Kingsbane", a longsword with a lion-head hilt. King Adrien on the other hand wore a set of heavy steel-grey plate, a great crown upon his head displaying the fleur de lys, his family's emblem. In the King's hand was the sword "Main de la Mort", otherwise known as "Death's Hand." The two clashed on the field for well over an hour, until finally, the Emperor cut down the King of Flowers, Last of King of Letum. In his final dying moments, Adrien spat defiance at Arys, his last words being "One thing is for certain..the East shall rise again."
